Samsung and Microsoft Announce Winning Schools in 'Hope for Education' Contest |
Samsung and Microsoft Corp. today announced the winners of the second annual Hope For Education essay contest, a philanthropic program created by Samsung to benefit children's education with the latest technology. Through the program, 101 U.S. elementary, middle and high schools will receive a total of $2 million in technology prizes from Samsung and Microsoft.
Based on a winning essay submission describing the importance of technology in education, North Lincoln High School of Lincolnton, North Carolina will receive the grand prize of $200,000 worth of Samsung technology and Microsoft software. An additional 100 schools with winning essay submissions will receive $20,000 in technology and software. The Grand Prize, together with the 100, $20,000 prize winners announced today, brings the total dollar equivalency of the products donated by Samsung and Microsoft to $2,200,000.
"We are proud to announce the completion of another rewarding year for the Hope For Education program. This year we were able to join forces with Microsoft, an incredible technology and software leader, who shares the same desire and passion in giving back to the community," said Peter Weedfald, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing Consumer Electronics & North American Corporate Marketing, Samsung Electronics America. "Together, we were able to double the amount of technology offerings provided to the 101 winning schools across the country. It is such a fulfilling experience to bring smiles to the faces of these children who deserve the opportunity for a technology- filled education."

"Microsoft is committed to helping students realize their potential through educational software that inspires learning, and we are honored to team with Samsung to help make this possible for today's winning schools."
Seven winning schools and their nominators located in the New York Metropolitan area are participating in a ceremony today at the Samsung Experience, located in the Shops at Columbus Circle in NYC's Time Warner Center. At the event they will receive congratulations from Mr. DJ Oh, President & CEO, Samsung Electronics North America and Peter Weedfald, Sr. Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Consumer Electronics & North American Corporate Marketing, Samsung Electronics.
The winning schools from the New York area are: Shulamith, Woodmere, NY; Samuel M. Ridgeway School, Edgewater Park, NJ; P.S. 230, Doris L. Cohen School, Brooklyn, NY; Central School, East Hanover, NJ; I.S. 59 Springfield Garden, NY; Lakeland High School, Shrub Oak, NY; Cardinal Hayes High School, Bronx, NY; Nightengale Elementary, Massena, NY; Morris Hills High School. Rockaway, NJ and Columbus Magnet School, New Rochelle, NY. |
