FindGift.com's Gift Registry Brings the Traditional Holiday Hint List Online |
The holiday hint list traditionally
written and distributed to family has found a new identity online. No longer
used only for weddings and showers, FindGift.com's gift registry has become an
increasingly popular tool for gift giving during the holidays.
The growth of registry usage during the holiday season provides insight
into the changing nature of the gift registry. No longer does it have to be
solely a list of items someone "wants." FindGift.com has expanded on the
original registry concept to make it a personal space people can use for
exchanging holiday "hints," http://www.findgift.com/Services/Gift-Registry/.
In contrast to the traditional registry, the FindGift.com service has
added the following conveniences:
* Items from any website can be included within a person's registry --
regardless of whether that website is affiliated with FindGift.com or
not.
* The ability to "type in" gifts, personal notes, and website links.
This allows people to offer gift hints of a more general nature, such
as clothing sizes, favorite colors, and brands. Or, items can even be
added from a local store which does not have a website.
* Custom categories can be created to help organize a person's registry.
"On my registry, I have asked for the stock market to go up," says Bob
Zakrzewski co-founder of FindGift.com. "I doubt anyone can guarantee that for
me this holiday season. Though, I felt that it added personality to my
registry, while letting people know that I follow the stock market."
Also in contrast to traditional registries, the FindGift.com registry
experiences its highest volume in November and December, rather than during
the wedding season. In 2004, usage was 73% higher during the holiday season
than the rest of the year.
"High usage during the holiday season is a result of people being able to
use their registry however they want," according to Zakrzewski. "They can
choose specific items, list a few hints, or a combination of both. It can
even be used by teachers to create a classroom wish list where school supplies
needed can be noted and volunteers for upcoming field trips solicited."
Membership data provided to FindGift.com is used to offer customized and
secure services for its members. Personal information is not sold to 3rd
parties. FindGift.com was established in 1998. |
