Extreme Networks Recognized for Innovative Product Strategy

Extreme Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:EXTR) , the leader in open converged networks, today announced that it has been recognized by global growth consulting company Frost & Sullivan as the recipient of its 2005 Product Line Strategy Award for the Enterprise Switch Market. Extreme Networks(R) was singled-out for its innovative approach to providing an integrated software and hardware network solution, bringing together a well-planned product portfolio that helps customers implement Voice over IP (VoIP), establish network security, and integrate wired and wireless infrastructures.

Frost & Sullivan highlighted Extreme Networks' strategy of partnering with other vendors who use open standards to allow customers to select the best products for their enterprise network. This permits customers to avoid being locked into an inflexible, single vendor strategy. Extreme Networks was also noted for its ability to help enterprise customers address their difficult technology challenges by leveraging its products in a complete solution that offers the price, performance, and feature points the market requires.

"This award demonstrates our recognized success in delivering a product portfolio that enables customers to solve the most relevant networking problems," said Suresh Gopalakrishnan, vice president of marketing for Extreme Networks. "With our open approach, customers can build an extensible infrastructure that can accommodate the convergence of applications occurring on today's networks, without sacrificing security and flexibility."

A vital element of Extreme Networks' product portfolio is the software platform, ExtremeWare(R)XOS(TM). Designed from the ground-up as a network operating system to deliver higher availability, application awareness, extensibility, and openness, ExtremeWare XOS has a modular architecture that is well suited for open collaboration. This software platform increases the intelligence and value of the network to support security, converged applications and emerging services.

The methodology used by Frost & Sullivan for its 2005 awards included having its analyst team track all end-user requirements and market dynamics within the industry. This process also included interviews with suppliers, end-users, and industry experts. The product lines were then compared with customer-base demands and a leader was selected.

In addition to the Frost & Sullivan 2005 Product Line Strategy Award, Extreme Networks' BlackDiamond(R) 10K and ExtremeWare(R) XOS operating system received CMP Media LLC's Network Magazine's 2005 Innovation Award for its unique approach to opening the core switch for collaboration that promotes integration with third-party solutions. The solution was named the "Most Visionary" for its ability to increase device intelligence and collaboration for emerging areas such as security and IP telephony.
