BitMover Announces Open Source Awards Program |
BitMover Inc., the technology leader in distributed collaborative development tools, announced
the first beneficiary of their Open Source Awards Program.
The first award has gone to Joe English for his work on the Tcl/TK
graphical toolkit, specifically the Tile project (http://tktable.sf.net/ ).
Joe is the primary force behind the effort to modernize TK.
"We're big fans of the Tcl/TK toolkit and we're excited by the significant
improvements made by Joe and his team," said Oscar Bonilla, a senior BitMover
engineer in charge of graphical interfaces. "This work ensures that the
Tcl/TK Toolkit will remain competitive far into the future."
The award was presented at the recent Tcl/TK conference in Portland,
Oregon. English received an Apple(R) iPod(R) and Apple(R) laptop in
recognition of his contribution to an Open Source project.
"It's gratifying to see commercial companies like BitMover supporting Open
Source work in the way that they do," said Joe English, "BitMover's generous
contribution will facilitate the advancement of full cross-platform support
for Tcl/TK GUIs."
BitMover works closely with many Open Source developers and will continue
to look for creative ways to support their work. This award program is
designed to reward developers whose high level of productivity has moved a
project significantly forward and/or projects that have made a significant
contribution.
"We use a variety of Open Source tools and have supported many developers
who are active in that community," said BitMover's VP of Sales, Bob Burres.
"BitMover is doing very well and this is one way for us to give back. If we
can help by providing hardware it's a win for everyone and many Open Source
developers are now supporting the Apple platform." |
