John Markoff reveals in a NY Times article
that Google is planning to introduce a new “communications tool” this Wednesday. Markoff then sets in motion ripples of
anticipation through the blogosphere with these words: ”While executives would not disclose what the new software
tool might be, Google has long been expected to introduce an instant messaging service to compete with services offered
by America Online, Yahoo and MSN from Microsoft.” Either Markoff is capriciously guessing, or he knows what’s going
to be released, but is under mournalistic embargo and therefore must frame his knowledge as plausible speculation.
