Microsoft and Artemis settle trademark lawsuit

(InfoWorld) - Microsoft has reached a confidential settlement in a trademark infringement case brought against it by biometrics company Artemis Solutions Group, Microsoft announced late Friday.

As part of the settlement, Artemis will retain rights to its BioCert trademark and dismiss its suit against Microsoft, the Redmond, Washington, software company said.

Artemis makes various biometric, ID, and smart card products.

In May, Microsoft kicked off a program to license some of its patented technologies to third parties. BioCert was the name it gave to one of those technologies, according to its press release issued May 4.

Microsoft has now updated the archived version of that press release on its Web site, calling the technology Microsoft Biometric ID.

Microsoft, in Redmond, Washington, did not return a call seeking comment early Monday. Artemis, in Freeland, Washington, could not be reached.
