Adam Lasnik discovered a Google-posted ad for product
manager of GoogleTV. That’s one way to announce a new business initiative: post an ad as if the company division has
existed for years, and wait for the bloggers to find it. Anyway, the
job description makes me think Google is really looking for Steve Perlman, inventor of WebTV.
Speculation is wide open on this one, because there is no indication of where GoogleTV will insert itself. A WebTV-like
set-top box? A transformation of Google Video, which is already a misnamed
GoogleTV? An advertising service driving a wedge between networks and traditional agencies? A buyout of TiVo? AdSense
for Networks?
