Google has started a blog dedicated to Google Video, “Celebrating
creative works from the many contributors to the Google Upload program.” This is good to see, and it positions Google
more solidly against Yahoo! Video. But the space for this sort of promotion would seem to be at Google Video, not at a
separate blog. I understand that Google might want to preserve the Video site as a level playing field for all
uploaders, with no content showcased by editorial choice. But the “random videos” highlighted on the Video home page
can, at any given moment, make the service seem pretty pathetic. Now that Google is starting to
amass a good body of really worthwhile content, a human-produced portal is in order. [via
