German startup to offer Linux server line

(InfoWorld) - German IT company Pyramid Computer GmbH is transferring its open-source server technology to a new company, Collax GmbH, the companies said Thursday.

The startup, in Ismaning, Germany, near Munich, will focus exclusively on marketing a preconfigured open source Linux server, based on its Collax Business Server software.

The software combines all main administration, communication and security functions. A license will cost around €1,300 (US$1,608 for up to 50 connected workstations.

Venture capital companies Wellington Partners and Atlas Venture have invested a combined €5 million.

Collax said it plans to expand into the U.S. market.
